He notices that she's staring. She notices that he's noticed. She does not break eye contact. She does not look away. She does not leave. She holds the gaze for almost a minute and the only thing that changes is her hand goes to her hip.
What to watch for
The mutual awareness without either party breaking is the unusual structure. Most caught-staring moments resolve in under three seconds. Hers extends past sixty. The hand on the hip is the body-language commitment. She is signalling she's not going anywhere. He is the one who breaks first, which is also unusual. He looks down for a moment. She does not. After he looks back up she gives a small nod and walks away.
