She Stops Walking But Her Dog Does Not
Dog was on a leash and kept walking. She didn’t. The leash went tight and the dog looked back like what’s the holdup. She was too busy staring to notice the tug.

Sidewalk, early evening, residential block. She's walking a small dog on a long leash. The flash is from a parked car at the curb. Her feet stop walking. Her brain is still processing. The leash goes tight as the dog continues at its normal pace. The leash continues to extend until the dog is half a block ahead before she snaps out of it and starts running to catch up. The dog is unconcerned.
What to watch for
The leash is the physical timer. It extends from comfortable slack to fully taut to dragging-the-dog over the course of about fifteen seconds. She does not feel the tension because she is not paying attention to the leash. The dog continues walking and pulling because the dog is doing its job. When she finally registers the situation she has to actively run to catch up. She arrives breathless next to her own dog and apologizes to it out loud.
