Outdoor public space, afternoon. She is walking past. The flash registers. Her hand goes straight to her sternum. She holds it there for one second. Then the laugh breaks through before her face is ready for it. The laugh is loud and unexpected even to her. She tries to stop it and fails. The hand stays on her chest the whole time.
What to watch for
The hand-to-chest is involuntary. It is the gesture you make when something startles you in a way that registers in your gut. She did not plan to make it. After it locks in place the laugh starts. The laugh is short, two beats, and then she catches it. By the time she catches it her face has already given the response away. She drops the hand from her chest, regains composure, and walks past. She is still smiling.
