It slipped out before she could stop it. Loud enough that people around her looked over. She turned red, covered her mouth, but the damage was done. Everyone heard the wow.

Outdoor public area, afternoon. She walks past at fifteen feet from him and the flash registers. She blurts out wow loud enough that two other pedestrians turn their heads. Her hand goes to her mouth a half-second after the word leaves it. The blush starts in her cheeks and spreads visibly to her ears and neck over the next eight seconds. She keeps walking but at half pace and her face does not return to baseline for the next minute.
What to watch for
The audio comes first. Wow is loud and unprepared. The hand-to-mouth gesture is delayed because she didn't know she was going to say it. Watch the color shift. Cheeks go first, ears second, neck third. The progression takes almost ten seconds. Other pedestrians glance at her and away again. She does not make eye contact with any of them. Her stride compensates by becoming smaller, like she's trying to take up less space.
