Three trips to the same aisle in five minutes and she didn’t buy anything from it. At that point she wasn’t even pretending to shop. Just pure excuse to keep walking past.

Big-box store, three loops of the same aisle in under three minutes. Each loop has a different cover story. Loop one she's looking for cereal. Loop two she's checking a price tag. Loop three she's pretending to be on the phone. By loop four she has stopped pretending and is just walking the aisle without a basket or any reason to be there. She does this in front of him without making eye contact each time.
What to watch for
The cover stories degrade across the loops. The first one is plausible. The second is thin. The third is unconvincing. The fourth has no cover at all. Watch her hands. Loop one she's holding a list. Loop two no list. Loop three a phone. Loop four nothing. The escalation in commitment is matched by a decrease in the apparatus of pretending. By the end she's just openly there. She does not approach. She just continues looping until the clip ends.
